My Story:

My life used to be a whirlwind, balancing two boys, school, work, and my husband’s demanding schedule. I was constantly exhausted, trying to live up to the “American Dream” and provide for my boys, much like my single mom did for me and my siblings. Early on, I learned responsibility through hard work, taking on jobs from the age of 14 to cover my expenses.

Becoming a teacher, like my mom once aspired to, only added to the chaos. Trying to be the perfect teacher, mother, and wife left me drained, barely hanging on. Then, one day, I heard about living a slower life on the radio and realized something had to change. I scaled back my boys’ extracurricular activities, realizing they needed time to simply be kids. But I still found myself drowning in material possessions, thinking it was what my children needed.

A house fire shattered that illusion, making me realize that what mattered most couldn’t be bought. It prompted a shift in mindset – a determination to simplify our lives. Changing careers brought new found balance, allowing me to spend quality time with my kids and truly be present for them.

Since then, I’ve been on a mission to declutter our home and inspire others to do the same. While my whole family isn’t minimalist, I encourage them to prioritize experiences over possessions. Life is too precious to be consumed by stuff and schedules!
